Every Maritim hotel is defined by its local and cultural surroundings. Whether located in the centre of a large town, in a metropolitan region or in the countryside: each hotel is perfectly adapted to the individual conditions of its location.
The Maritim hotel group realised early on that the careful use of resources is an important factor in securing the future of our society. For this reason, measures are taken in all of our hotels to preserve energy, avoid unnecessary waste and protect the environment. When it comes to using energy efficiently, all Maritim hotels are first-class. The hotels are heated by means of environmentally-friendly natural gas or district heating, rather than scarce crude oil. Some of the hotels generate their own electricity and have their own cogeneration units. In sunny destinations such as Tenerife, solar thermal collectors on the roofs of hotels are used to ensure warm water. Maritim also takes great care to ensure that water is used efficiently. Without impairing the comfort of our guests, several measures are adopted to ensure that this precious resource is not wasted unnecessarily. These include flow restrictors in showers, economy buttons on toilets and so-called perlators, which expel soft beads of water from the spout, rather than allowing it to spurt out. Strict waste separation is compulsory in all Maritim hotels. Whether residual waste, plastic packaging, organic waste, glass or paper – anything that can potentially be recycled is disposed of in a special container. Even broken crockery is partially reused in road construction. 80 percent of the light fittings in Maritim hotels are furnished with energy-saving lamps – conventional lighting is only used where this is currently not possible for atmospheric reasons. Energy-saving timers are used in all hotels – especially in public areas, from the underground garage to the corridors. The air conditioning systems are powered by electronically controlled air circulators.
Our highly qualified technical managers provide all Maritim hotel employees with regular training on any matters relating to environmental protection. This, for instance, has enabled the Maritim Hotel Berlin to reduce its electricity consumption by approximately 30 percent over the past two years. The use of organic products also makes a significant contribution towards environmental protection. In 2007, the Maritim proArte Hotel became the first hotel in Berlin to be certified organic by Agro-Öko-Consult Berlin GmbH, an EU control body for the ecological production and processing of agricultural products. At breakfast time and conferences, our guests will find meals made with organic produce. In July 2010, the Maritim Hotel Bonn, in collaboration with the European Association of Events Centres (EVVC), was awarded the prestigious "Green Globe" certification for outstanding environmental management, both in the area of meetings and conferences and for the hotel as a whole. Since 2007, the Maritim Hotel Bonn, along with its sister hotel in Königswinter, has been a member of the regional "Sustainable Bonn" initiative, which promotes sustainability in the ecological, economic and social spheres.
We are confident that environmental sustainability, together with excellent training and education for employees, will convince our guests that they have chosen the right hotel for their private and business stays. To ensure that it remains this way, a quality management system, which is constantly enhanced, is in place in all of our hotels. This helps to sharpen environmental awareness on an ongoing basis as well as regularly identifying new areas for optimisation measures.
